The WALK
EASY is a device which (with the assistance of his Physiotherapist) was
designed by a patient who had suffered from 'Dropped Foot' following a stroke.
After having tried without success to find any appliance or device which gave
reasonable assistance when walking without being painful.
When
properly fitted the WALK EASY assists the wearer in walking with the sole of
the foot more or less parallel to the ground. It has a DYNAMIC
action which allows the foot and ankle to flex which permits the exercise of
the muscles which thereby aids the rapid re-development of the motor responses
to the affected area.
Many patients have reported that after only a few
months with the WALK EASY their recovery was such as to allow them to walk
comfortably without any orthosis at all.
The WALK
EASY is seen to offer many advantages over the plastic A.F.O., more
particularly for those patients who suffer from 'Dropped Foot', who drive a car
or wish to participate in sporting events such as dancing, golf or bowling,
where it is necessary to flex the foot.
In fact the
patients will find that when wearing the WALK EASY they will be almost as
mobile as they were before being afflicted by 'Dropped Foot'. The WALK EASY is
the only device of this nature which is fully adjustable for size and tension
required for comfort. However, it should only be adjusted so as to be
comfortable in use and never so tight as to dig into the leg as this could
restrict the circulation.
With the
WALK EASY, the patients may use any available pair of shoes and with care the
shoe attachment may be fitted even to studded golf shoes by using a paper punch
to make a hole in the pad, which fits under a suitably situated
stud.
Physiotherapists having compared alternatives to the WALK EASY have
found that the standard plastic A.F.O. and other types of splint in general use
tend to be very uncomfortable to wear for any length of time, they do not allow
the foot to flex easily and often hurt either the foot or the leg.
Most
physiotherapists will not prescribe for their patients types of dropped foot
assistor which require the wearing of specially adapted shoes. With the WALK
EASY the patient can wear his own shoes. |
